The Equipment & Ingredients

There are not too many ingredients to Sriracha sauce, and you can get everything you need in your local supermarket or Asian store. The ingredients you will need for your Sriracha sauce are as follows:

  • One pound of red jalapeno peppers
  • Half a pound of red serrano peppers
  • 4 cloves of peeled garlic
  • 1 Tablespoon kosher salt
  • 3 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • One third a cup of water
  • Half a cup of distilled white vinegar

To make your sauce, you will need a blender, a strainer, a saucepan, a chopping board, a knife, a glass container, and a bottle to store your Sriracha sauce once made.

Step One

Cut the stalks off the two lots of peppers and put these in the blender with your peeled garlic, water, sugar, and salt, and pulse this a few times until the mixture is smooth.

Step Two

Pour the mixture into the glass container, cover the top using plastic film or a damp cloth, and place it somewhere that is dark and has a cool temperature. You will need to leave the mixture there for between three and five days, stirring it daily, scraping the glass’s sides, and mixing the fermenting liquid well.

Step Three

You will now want to transfer the mixture back to your blender and also add the vinegar to it and mix it until it is smooth.

Step Four

Once your mixture is smooth, you will want to strain the liquid to get rid of any pulp or seeds and put this into a saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil and let it thicken to your desired consistency, which usually takes between five and ten minutes.

Step Five

Let the Sriracha sauce cool down to room temperature before transferring it to your container and placing it in the fridge. It will typically last for around three or four weeks, and you can use it in lots of your homemade cooking to add a different dimension to the taste.
